On 和 onto 有些情况下意思是相同的：
E.g.: The boy fell on hard ground and broke his leg.
这个男孩摔倒在硬地上，把腿给弄断了。
She went into the church, fellupon the ground and began to pray.
她走进教堂，跪倒在地，开始祈祷。
但 on 和 onto 也是有区别的：
Onto 一般指从一个位置到另一个位置的一个移动动作；on 通常指地点。
e.g.: The child jumped onto the bed.(在跳上床之前，孩子是不在床上的)
The child jumped on the bed.（在床上跳，孩子自始至终都在床上）
Upon 是 on 的较为诗意的表达，试比较下面的例子：
Many people will wish upon a star. （wish upon 更具诗意）
多半人都会向星星许愿。
Wish on a star that shines in your sky.
让星星在心头闪耀，许下美好心愿。
1·on和upon大致相等，以前比较常用upon现在基本不用，两个词基本可互换
2·onto则更倾向于状态的描述，比如朝着...移向...登上...当然也可表示在...之上
3·on是静态介词，onto是动态介词。
