工业上生产烧碱有电解法和苛化法,电解法又分隔膜电解法和水银电解法,分述如下:

(1)隔膜电解法:除去杂质后中性的饱和食盐水溶液在隔膜电解槽中进行电解生成氢氧化钠和氯气,主要反应如下:

在阳极上的反应2Cl--2e→Cl2↑

在阴极上的反应Na++e→Na

2Na+2H2O→2NaOH+H2↑

饱和食盐水溶液经电解后得到的电解液中含有110~130g/L氢氧化钠,180~200g/L氯化钠。电解液经蒸发浓缩,将溶液中的氯化钠分离出去,经蒸发浓缩后得到30%或42%的商品液体烧碱。继续把碱液浓缩到45%,送入固碱锅中进一步熬浓可制得隔膜法固体烧碱。该法制得的烧碱含氯化钠较高,一般用于肥皂、造纸、制药、印染、农药等工业上。

(2)水银电解法:除去杂质后中性的饱和食盐水溶液在以水银为阴极,钛钌为阳极的电解槽中进行电解生成氯气和钠汞齐,发生如下的反应:

2NaCl+2nHg→Cl2+↑+2NaHgn

液体钠汞齐从电解槽泵入解汞室与水反应生成氢氧化钠和氢气,发生以下反应:

2NaHgn+2H2O→2NaOH+H2↑+2nHg

钠汞齐分解后又变为水银,再泵回电解槽中循环使用,自解汞室出来的碱液含NaOH为45~50 %,不需浓缩可直接作为商品液体烧碱。也可以将碱液送入固碱锅中进一步熬浓制得水银法固体烧碱。此法制得的烧碱纯度高,含氯化钠及其它杂质均较低。主要用于合成纤维工业上 。

(3)苛化法:纯碱溶液与石灰乳发生以下化学反应生成氢氧化钠。

Na2CO3+Ca(OH)2→2NaOH+CaCO3↓

澄清碱液蒸发浓缩后,再经澄清分离出去碳酸钙后可制得苛化法液体烧碱,也可将浓缩后的碱液送入固碱锅中进一步熬浓制得苛化法固体烧碱。此法制得的烧碱与隔膜法烧碱相比,含氯化钠较低,含碳酸钠较高。
